Configuring Linear integration

Tidal Control's Linear integration monitors your issue tracker for compliance purposes, tracking how high-priority work is managed across your teams.

What this integration monitors:

  • Issues: Assignment and resolution of urgent and high-priority issues
  • Users: Active user presence in your workspace

Requirements:

  • Super User role in Tidal Control
  • Linear account with API access

Configuration step-by-step plan

What we're going to do: We'll create a Linear API key, then add the connection in Tidal Control.

Configuration steps:

  1. Create an API key
  2. Configure the integration in Tidal Control

Step 1: Create an API key

  • Log in to your Linear account
  • Click your profile picture or name in the bottom-left corner
  • Select Settings
  • Navigate to API in the left sidebar
  • Under Personal API keys, click Create key
  • Enter a label (e.g. Tidal Control)
  • Click Create key
  • Copy the key value — it is only shown once
Warning

Save the API key immediately. Linear only shows the full key value once at creation. If you close the dialog without copying it, you will need to create a new key.

Step 2: Configure the integration in Tidal Control

  • Go to Settings → Integrations in Tidal Control
  • Click the plus icon next to Linear
  • Fill in the configuration:
    • Name: A descriptive name, e.g. Linear
    • API Key: The API key from step 1
  • Click "Create" to save the integration

Configuration fields explained

Name:

  • A descriptive name for this connection
  • For example: Linear, Linear Production

API Key:

  • Your personal Linear API key
  • Created in step 1
  • Keep this value secure

Verification

Check integration status:

  • Settings → Integrations shows "Connected" status for Linear
  • Linear tests are available in the Tests section
  • Test refresh delivers results without authentication errors

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a team API key instead of a personal one? Tidal Control uses personal API keys. Make sure the account that creates the key has access to the teams and issues you want to monitor.

Does the integration read all teams in my workspace? Yes, the integration reads all teams, issues, and users that are accessible to the account that created the API key.

Do I need admin access in Linear to create an API key? No, any Linear user can create a personal API key in their own settings.

Common problems

"API Key is required"

  • Make sure you entered the API key value, not the key label
  • The key should start with lin_api_

Tests show no data after connecting

  • Confirm the Linear account has access to at least one team and its issues
  • Try refreshing the tests manually
