How to implement this:
- Identify critical decision points: Map where in your product AI makes or influences decisions that affect people. These are the points where human oversight is mandatory.
- Design review workflows: Build a "human-in-the-loop" step for critical decisions — e.g. a dashboard where a team member reviews flagged AI outputs before they take effect.
- Provide override capability: Ensure the human reviewer can correct, reject or escalate AI decisions. The system should make it easy to override, not bury it behind multiple clicks.
- Train your team: The person overseeing AI must understand its limitations. Provide training on when and how to intervene, and what biases to watch for.
- Log oversight actions: Record every human review and override for audit purposes. This evidence demonstrates compliance and helps improve the AI over time.
