Document change management is the structured process of proposing, reviewing, approving and tracking modifications to compliance-critical documents such as policies, procedures, contracts and risk assessments. It typically involves version control, approval workflows, change logs and audit trails that record who changed what, when and why, ensuring that documents remain accurate, current and authorised at all times.
Effective document change management is a core requirement of ISO 27001 (Clause 7.5) and other compliance frameworks that mandate controlled documentation. Without it, organisations risk operating on outdated policies, losing track of contractual obligations or failing audits due to an inability to demonstrate a clear history of document revisions and approvals.
